In Indore, the introduction of a technologically advanced vehicle monitoring system at checkpoints is expected to create a transparent framework and improve the logistics flow from the city, which is a key commercial center in Madhya Pradesh. Truckers and transporters operating in the area estimate that around 4,000 commercial vehicles leave Indore daily, with this number increasing during festive periods.
Despite the government's efforts to replace checkposts with checkpoints and remove some of them to support the movement of vehicles in the state, there are concerns about the lack of an effective monitoring system. CL Mukati, the president of the Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association, highlighted the need for a technology-driven solution to oversee vehicle movements at checkpoints and prevent disruptions or extortion.
The Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association has reached out to Transport Minister Rao Uday Pratap Singh, urging the adoption of a technology-based monitoring system to ensure a smooth and transparent flow of commercial vehicles. Additionally, the All India Motor Transport Congress has also called for speeding up the implementation of the Gujarat model in the state.
In July, truckers requested the state transport department to establish a helpline for transporters and an official app for reporting issues and complaints. The government of Madhya Pradesh announced the removal of all checkposts at interstate borders on July 1, much to the satisfaction of transporters who have long advocated for this change to improve transportation efficiency and combat corruption.
